Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen

by Gary Paulsen

Hatchet is about survival. What are some things that belong in a survival kit? If you could only fit 10 items into a survival kit, what would they be and why are these things important?

Claire, Joey, Mackenzie, and Nick,

During literature circle discussion we decided that these are the items we should put in our survival kit:
1. canteen
2. first aid kit
3. knife
4. fishing pole
5. backpack
6. flint stones
7. rope
8. cooking pot
9. tent
10. compass

Post a comment explaining why these items would be important. Please reply to at least one of your group member's comments. (Be sure to leave your signature; NO LAST NAMES!!)

  1. I think that a canteen would be important because you can't live more than 3 days without water. -Jonni

  2. I think a hachet would be most important because you would need to defend your-self from a bear if one attacked. A knife could also be used to carve a bow and arrow and a fishing pole so you could hunt and fish. You would need to skin an animal and make a shelter with a hachet.
